A View with Style

On a recent journey to Fairhaven to photograph a property for MGDesign, I captured this image that summed up perfectly IMO the setting I was in. From the dusk sky to the waves crashing in the distance, the property unobtrusively purveyed the scene…

Film is not dead…!

During recent weeks I have had the chance to dig out the not so old x-pan film camera and run a couple of rolls through. I quite enjoy the process as I am made to think about my photography more than usual…rather than blasting a bracket of digital images, using film has enabled me to hone my techniques which can then be applied to what I do digitally.

Below there are a series of exposures made with my Hasselblad x-pan camera, a 35mm camera with panoramic capabilities. I love the tonal range I can obtain from these lenses.

This Image was obtained using fuji velvia 100, f. 16,  1/4 sec with a .9(3stop) hard grad nd filter.

This Image was obtained using fuji velvia 100, f. 11,  1/20 sec with a .6(2stop) hard grad nd filter.

This Image was obtained using fuji velvia 100, f. 22,  1 sec with a .9(3stop) hard grad nd filter. Ideally, a longer exposure to further blur the water may have added to the mood!

First Full Moon of the Summer, 2009

Anglesea, Australia The first full moon of the summer was captured rising low over the cliffs of Anglesea on a clear night that made for this eery capture. In order to catch the moon like this you need a long lens (400mm+) that is also fast (f2.8), remember the light reflected from the moon is from the sun and therefore in order to preserve the detail on the moon’s surface, a fast shutter speed is required. As this image was captured just on dusk, the foreground was still able to be exposed sufficiently.
